We will go to Delta del Ebro where we will be able to contemplate the natural and agricultural importance of this area, its rice fields and the ornithological treasures. We will get to know the different species of birds and the importance of this unique ecosystem by visiting the Interpretation Center. Before we start our boat trip you will have some shopping time for any souvenirs at the pier. Our first stop will be the Buda island, that is situated at the mouth of the Ebro River and has an extension of 5 km; it’s known to be the biggest island in Catalonia. During our excursion, it will be explained the importance of this island and we will be able to see the old iron lighthouse from 1864, made by the Spanish architect and engineer Lucio del Valle (1815 – 1874). After almost 100 years, it was destroyed by a storm in 1961. This huge lighthouse, with almost 53 meters high, was built on a sandbank, in a deserted place. After this delightful trip we will have lunch at a local restaurant, where you will have a taste of all the gastronomic specialties of this area.
Afterwards, we will go to the lovely town of Tortosa, the capital of the Bajo region. Its streets, its people, its historic and artistic heritage, its landscapes and the Ebro river, gives a charming scent to this town. We will take a look at the Zuda Castle, that, since 1294, was converted into a royal palace and entered the inn’s national network. We will visit the Prince Gardens, situated in the old spa of Tortosa, where is located a very important sculpture collection from the famous Santiago de Santiago.
In the end of our tour we will return to our departure point.
